Floor Coatings

Decorative Concrete Floor Coatings

Floor coatings can come in a wide range of styles and materials. A floor coating is a product that is installed in a wet or uncured form to eventually set up or dry leaving the floor covered, protected and looking new again.

Floor coatings are often installed over top of a concrete surface. Whether its a basement slab, foundation floor slab or garage floor , many concrete floor were installed for functionality and not necessarily for visual appeal. It is with a concrete floor coating system that you can change all of that.

Floor coatings are available in super thin cement and polymer mixtured as well as epoxy, polyurea and paints.

Depending on what you are looking to achieve here are some overviews of some typical decorative floor coating systems.

For lightly damaged concrete:

Thin microtopping systems can coat a concrete surface from as little as 1/16th of an inch and help to hide stains and minor imperfections. They will add a new surface that can be colored and stained or dyed to make it any color you want. These coatings can be installed smooth like polished concrete or textured like slate.

For heavily damaged slabs:

When a concrete slab is heavily damaged, cracked, chipped, and out of level, a thicker concrete coating must be applied to make up for the various offsets and imperfections. Either a trowel grade topping mix or self leveling type of cement coating could be installed from 1/4 inch up to 2″ in some cases.

For garage floors requiring chemical resistance:

Garage floor coatings are usually installed to add shine, a smooth finish and a durable stain resistant finish. They are painted on similar to a floor coating paint but come in a commercial grade highly durable coating system. Often times it is an epoxy, urethane, polyaspartic, or polyurea that is installed in a garage or industrial facility.

For a textured or natural stone appearance:

When a more natural resemblance to stone, rock or tile is wanted there are stamp grade floor coatings. Stamp grade cement floor coating systems are trowled onto a surface and then stamped or pressed onto the coatings leaving behind a textured surface similar to rock, stone or tile.

For a smooth level appearance:

If getting a smooth level finish is wanted then a self leveling type of concrete can be installed that will flow and find its own level of smoothness creating a perfectly consistent finish.
