Decorative concrete first sparked Dave McVey’s interest because it would allow him to take advantage of his creativity. As a result, he started Concrete Resurfacing Inc. in 2001 and worked with hundreds of clients before setting his sights in a new direction.

During the ensuing years, McVey developed a passion for creating concrete countertops and furniture. Concrete Resurfacing Inc. became Sabbia Tile and Countertops as McVey refocused his business on pre-casting concrete tile, furniture, and concrete countertops.

Today, he provides both exterior and interior concrete designs, using products from Concrete Coatings Inc., to residential and commercial clientele in Olathe, Lawrence, Kansas City, and Topeka, Kansas.

McVey offers a guarantee on all of his products, but the duration of the guarantee depends upon the individual product.

During their seven years in business, Sabbia Tile and Countertops has worked on many memorable projects, but McVey’s favorite job to date was for Carter Waters, Inc. in Kansas City.

“It was a large countertop,” McVey says. “It was only five eighths of an inch thick, using glass fiber reinforced concrete.”

While McVey generally uses products from Concrete Coatings Inc., he also supports the community by using local products and local supplies whenever possible. In addition, he believes it’s important to recycle products whenever possible.

“I re-fabricate broken or unwanted furniture before it ends up in the landfill, and I reduce the amount of portland cement used in my concrete by adding recycled aggregates,” McVey, who secures his work from the Internet and word of mouth, says.
