Restoration at the NC Maritime Museum Wins Local Company National Acclaim

Royal Coat, Inc., A decorative concrete company, headquartered in Morehead City, NC won first place in Concrete Décor’s Second Annual Concrete Restoration Contest for its outstanding restoration efforts at the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort, NC.

A water leak severely damaged the hardwood lobby floor of the Maritime Museum. Royal Coat removed the damaged hardwood and applied a decorative concrete over-lay in a wood-grain

Decorative Concrete is a colored cementitious overlay applied to existing concrete to beautify and protect.

“This was a project with many obstacles”, Barry Kreager, President of Royal Coast said. “We created a bubble to insure no dust would enter the rest of the facility, which was difficult because the room had a three-story ceiling”

Other challenges they confronted involved removing adhesives and grinding the entire floor with diamond grinders.

Concrete Décor is a national trade publication with over 40,000 subscribers. Entries for the Concrete Restoration Contest were submitted nationwide. The Contest was judged on three criteria:

1) The challenges the contractor faced

2) The level of creativity that went into the final look

3) How the restored piece compliments or contrasts with its surrounding

“We like to showcase great work!”, said Wendy Ardolino, Editor of Concrete Décor, An Eugene, Oregon based publication. “What Royal Coat did, “shows artistic ability, talent as well as training”

Barry Kreager and Royal Coat, Inc. are to be featured at the “World of Concrete” Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada January 21-25. 100,000 people are expected to attend this Expo. Royal Coat will be assisting with seminars and will have their work showcased at many exhibits
