Jeff Barnett, owner of Oklahoma Decorative Concrete Creations Inc., runs his business based one two simple yet powerful philosophies: Honesty and high quality workmanship.
A former police officer, who retired four and a half years ago, Barnett believes in always being honest with his clients and with providing the highest quality of workmanship, something that most clients appreciate, especially in an industry where clients must be particularly vigilant when choosing a contractor.
Barnett, who has run Oklahoma Decorative Concrete Creations Inc. for the past nine years, was introduced to decorative concrete a decade ago when a builder told him about decorative and stained concrete. When he realized decorative concrete would allow him to use his creative talents, Barnett started taking courses to learn everything he could about decorative concrete.
Today, Oklahoma Decorative Concrete Creations Inc. serves a predominately residential clientele although Barnett does cater to commercial clients as well.
“We do both interior and exterior design,” Barnett says. “For the interior, we mostly do concrete countertops and acid stains. The most popular service for the exterior is sidewalks, porches, and driveways.”
For acid staining, Barnett typically uses products such as Chemico and buys materials for his concrete countertops from Concrete Solutions.
He also uses EliteCrete Systems for his outdoor applications.
Oklahoma Decorative Concrete Creations Inc. also offers textured overlays, stamped overlays, and ceramic tile installation. Clients and prospective clients who want to view Barnett’s previous work can do so by contacting Barnett who will then arrange for a viewing at a previous client’s home. Clients can also view some of Barnett’s work at his shop.
The lifespan of the decorative concrete really depends upon the maintenance of the concrete. Barnett warns all of his clients, especially with exterior concrete, that anything can happen.
“One of our worst enemies is moisture,” Barnett says. “Ground moisture that goes into the concrete causes efflorescence and it causes the concrete to become a little cloudy.”
Still, while natural damage can occur, it’s important for clients to maintain their decorative concrete, both inside and out, properly.
Oklahoma Decorative Concrete Creations Inc. generates much of its business through word of mouth in addition to Concrete Ideas. Builders are another source of business for Barnett, who notes that when he works with a builder, often another builder will see his work and he will gain business that way.
Based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Decorative Concrete Creations Inc. serves Oklahoma City, Midwest City, Dell City, Moore, Yukon, Edmond, and Normal. Barnett will also travel further for projects for an extra fee.
