Bomanite Unveils New Recycled Paper Tool for Cast-In-Place Pervious Concretegrasscrete

Goal is to improve the Bomanite Grasscrete Systems process and lower installed costs while recycling post industrial and post consumer paper products.
MADERA, CA, January 15, 2007--The Bomanite Corporation has made available the details of the long awaited Molded Pulp Former for the production of Grasscrete, a version of pervious concrete. Grasscrete is a void structured cast-in-place concrete product that is continously reinforced to form the most robust grass concealed or decorative permeable product on the market. Based on the original European developed single use ABS plastic product, this new version of the tool combines the benefits of increased production while eliminating the issue of melting the ABS to create the required voids.

permeable concrete1. The original tool or "ABS Former" is made from thin walled, vacuum formed ABS plastic. The new tool or "Molded Pulp Former" is made from recycled newsprint and various other clean paper byproducts such as post industrial roll ends and post consumer circulated print.
2. The ABS Former is cast into the concrete as part of the pouring process. Once the concrete has cured adequatly the ABS Former tops are melted/burned with torches to open the voids. The Molded Pulp Former uses only simple starch as a binder which is easily broken down with pressurized water to open the voids.
3. The ABS Former requires bridging or scaffolding as it can not bear the weight ofpulp concrete workmen. The Molded Pulp Former can be walked on by workmen and can even bear the weight of wheeled concrete eliminating the need for bridging.

Utilizing pervious concrete products such as Bomanite's Grasscrete Systems improve the environment through waste water management, minimization of heat island effect and various other detrimental issues associated with non-porous paving surfaces. Additionally, Grasscrete allows for continuos vehicular traffic such as a parking lot while supporting vegetation such as grass or ground cover varitials. Asthetically pleasing while responisbly sustainable make Grasscrete Systems a good choice for many pervious concrete applications. grasscrete
