Learn about thin microtopping resurfacing systems, their application design options and installation methods.

If your concrete is relatively smooth, and in pretty good condition, but still requires a face lift, and added color and design, then a thin cement resurfacing system may hold the answers.

Microtopping are by far the most diverse products out there, because of their ease of application, a range of finishes and options can be achieved by experienced applicators.

The three basic elements of a microtopping are:
Coarse texture: Comprised of cement, coarse aggregate and sometimes additional chemicals or dry polymer for water addmixtures. Often used to create a bond coat or first coat to start the build up. Will leave behind a sand paper type finish that is ideal for subsequent top coats with either another coarse texture coat or fine texture coat.

Fine texture: Comprised of cement, fine aggregate and sometimes additional chemicals or dry polymer for water addmixtures. Sometimes, sprayed like a thick paint with specialty spray equipment or out of a textured hopper gun. The aggregate is often times non apparent because it is so fine(like flour). This material can give a smooth and sometimes polished concrete look.

Polymer additive: Used to add the flexural strength, compressive strength and adhesive bonding properties, along with other attributes.

Understanding and controlling microtoppings and thin resurfacing systems will open the door to creativity and possibilities.
