Going the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction is the driving force at Jeffco Concrete. Jeff McCool, owner of Jeffco Concrete, believes that that, and their warranty, sets Jeffco Concrete apart from the competition, which often charges less for work but doesn’t have the same high workmanship standards.
When he saw the need for a reputable decorative concrete company in the southeast, McCool became a Bomanite franchisee. That was 25 years ago. Today, Jeffco Concrete is one of Bomanite’s larger franchises, serving Alabama and much of the southeast.
While Jeffco Concrete got its start in the residential market, the company has grown over the years. However, the majority of McCool’s current clientele are commercial and large-sized companies.
“We still work a lot of residential projects,” McCool says. “We very much appreciate that market, but it is a smaller market for us now. The economy has not helped that market either.”
Jeffco Concrete, which offers both interior and exterior concrete designs, offers a full range of products, including imprints, aggretex, stains, polishing, micro-tops, epoxy, pour plain and integral colored concrete. Their specialty, however, is polished concrete and imprinted concrete.
McCool opts to use Bomanite brand products whenever possible. But, he points out, he isn’t limited to Bomanite and will use other products when speced or when necessary. Jeffco Concrete also uses HTC machines for their polishing, Ameri-polish for dyes, and Poly-spec for epoxy.
However, they will use whatever product is speced.
All of Jeffco Concrete’s products are backed by a one-year warranty, covering workmanship. According to McCool, the lifespan of polished concrete is indefinite if it is properly maintained. While Jeffco Concrete’s other products have varying lifespans, the products will all last much longer when they are properly maintained.
“Word of mouth is the best way to advertise and receive business. We do a lot of lunch and learns which help the architects and interior designers receive their annual continuing education credits,” McCool says. “I have found that this business is a relationship type of business. Advertising through the internet, magazines, brochures and mail outs is a must, but nothing works better than person to person contact.”
In the quarter century since Jeffco Concrete has been in business, McCool and his team have worked on countless projects for a wide range of clients. One recent project in particular, however, stands out as his best.
Jeffco Concrete was hired to polish the floor of a large high school in Alabama. McCool points out that the project served two key purposes. First, he and his team learned what to do and what not to do on such a big project. Second, they were able to view how well their product worked in a large environment.
In addition to completing the high school project, Jeffco Concrete also finished another major project: They recently unveiled their new 6000 square foot office and 55,000 square foot warehouse. All of their products were used in the building, and the sidewalks and parking lot have been imprinted. In addition, a 300 foot long sidewalk, alongside of the building, showcases different patterns and colors of imprinted concrete to help customers decide what they like best.
Headquartered in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Jeffco Concrete also serves various areas of the southeast, depending upon the product. For concrete polishing and shopping center sidewalks, McCool and his team will travel throughout the southeast and beyond. For imprinting, Jeffco Concrete will travel between two and three hours from Tuscaloosa while they will accept epoxy and staining projects within a three to four hour drive of their home office.
