Frank Schiavone believes that the success of any business comes down to how well the business owner treats his clients. As a result, he takes care of his clients, working closely with them throughout the installation, so they understand and feel confident in the process.
“Craftmanship and creativity can be taught,” Schiavone says. “But, you have to be a good quality person to be successful. You want people to know that you’re proud of the work that you do and to know that you stand behind the quality.”
Before launching Decorative Concrete Coatings a year and a half ago, Schiavone spent four years working part-time for a contractor who specialized in overlays. When the contractor decided to leave the business, Schiavone realized it was the ideal time to start a new business.
Thus, Decorative Concrete Coatings was born. Schiavone’s father, who has been a mason since the 1960s, and Schiavone teamed up for the business. Both have five years of experience in decorative concrete and have been trained by Stardek, InCrete, & Flex-C-Ment.
While Decorative Concrete Coatings specializes in skinstone products, the Schiavones also offer a full range of interior and exterior decorative concrete designs, including stenciling, acid staining, stamped overlays, stamped concrete, vertical wall stamping, and faux granite/acid and Formica countertop overlays. The main products used by Decorative Concrete Coatings are Stardek Resurfacing Products. 
Longevity of the decorative concrete is often a concern for clients. But, as Schiavone points out, installations such as epoxy garage floorings can last as long as ten years if they are maintained properly, with a coat of sealer applied every few years.
Currently, the majority of Decorative Concrete Coatings clientele consists of residential projects, but the duo is working hard to build their commercial base as well. To reach new clients, Schiavone advertises via the Internet, commercials, and direct mail ads. He has also secured new clients from word of mouth.
