Rick Smith made the leap into entrepreneurialism in 2002, when he started his decorative concrete company Decocrete Services. His philosophy for how he would secure clients and cultivate a reputation for high quality work was simple: He would do what he says he’s going to do when he says he will do it.
Combine that with a dedication to providing a quality job at a reasonable price, and Decocrete Services has become a formidable business.
Smith, who spent much of his early career installing floors, made the move to decorative concrete because he saw a need for qualified people in the industry. Today, Decocrete Services provides interior and exterior concrete design to residential and commercial clients. He has also done many custom homes and often works with designers.
Among the products Smith offers are acid staining, stained overlay, countertops, polished concrete, and epoxy flooring. Decocrete Services are also certified installers of Elite Crete Systems, ColorMaker, Increte Systems, and Flex C-Ment.
Decocrete’s products are generally backed by a two year warranty, but the lifespan of the decorative concrete will typically last for years if they are properly maintained.
“I have installed floor six years ago,” Smith says, “and they still look awesome today.”
Smith has built such a strong reputation with Decocrete Services that he generates most of his business from word of mouth and the Internet and no longer advertises.
