Decorative concrete is often used in homes and businesses that require a low maintenance finish while being subject to a lot of traffic. Although a beautiful shine is a great way to make things look new and clean, they also can become more of a burden trying to keep them that way.
High gloss finishes reveal undulations, scratches and imperfections a lot easier that low gloss matte or satin finishes. They also reflect light and sun rays very easily. So these are some tings to keep in mind when choosing a concrete coating finish.
The beauty of concrete is its natural looking appearance and characteristics. In keeping with this design element is often times a satin or matte finish that will accentuate the mood and ambiance more so than a showroom shine and high gloss plastic looking finish.
Fig.1
This floor used the exact same black color floor but was finished with two different levels of shine. One with a gloss finish and one with a satin finish. Notice how different the color seems? You can tell that the shiny areas are a lot less 'forgiving'.
