SimStain to the rescue!
When new business owner of Little People Hawaii decided to go it alone without the help of a professional to finish her concrete floor she might have bitten off more that she could chew!
"I took a good look at our floors and even mopped down to see what was under all the construction dust...and it was NOT pretty! First of all the surface has a layer of over spray acrylic paint. The surface does not absorb water, and puddles. It looks as though the surface had some kind of "glue down" because I could see trowel marks..
The location of our shop used to be a JC Pennys department store...so I suspect that the vinyl tile was removed and now there is residual hardened glue in most areas."
Like any successful project, surface preparation is of paramount importance for a long lasting installation. After many hours of aggressively sanding and removing all the glue, mastic and residue on the floor, there was still the issue of "will the concrete take stain?" An answer not easily answered with a chemically reactive acid stain, but not a problem for SimStain a semitransparent concrete stain that doesn't rely on a chemical reaction to deposit its color.
By using spray equipment and layering a combination of SimStain colors including bronze, persimmon, gold, blue, green and blue spruce, followed with water based sealer and wax maintenance coats, the floor turned out awesome. By adding sea turtles and starfish, a true beach, sandy island and ocean theme took place.
Well done!
