Concrete has long been known for its use in buildings, patios and driveways, but have you ever heard of a concrete skateboard?  Of course not it would be too heavy, bulky and non-functional right?  Wrong!

Youth facility and indoor skate park 'Rocketown' in Nashville, TN, was looking for an innovative solution to fix their slippey entryway stairs.  Being a youth center the 'coolness' factor played a big role in coming up with a solution.  With the upcoming Concrete Decor Show to be held in Nashvile, this was a perfect opportunity to demonstrate the versatility of concrete and specialized concrete countertop mixes now avaliable.

Using a product called enCOUNTER mix along with an additive enFLOW for water reduction, the fabricator was able to pour one of the trucks (the axle) and a set of wheels each day.  enCOUNTER Concrete Countertop SystemThe platforms of the skateboards themselves were also poured using enCOUNTER with enFLOW water reducer.  A reinforcement called EnForce fiber aliong with a six-gauge wire rebar mesh was also used.

The finished skateboards detailed with some creative dying, coloration and some fancy stenciling techniques gives the illusion of a plywood board, metal trucks and rubber wheels.  The outcome is nothing short of amazing!  Below is a Video How to Skateboard Steps.
