Starting From Scratch
When Victor and wife decided it was time to totally renovate the kitchen of their new fixer-upper home (to say the least), budget was an issue, but time was on their side. Understanding some construction, Victor decided to go in alone for most of the construction and renovate the entire kitchen space.
After removing all of the old kitchen counters, tearing out a wall, re-doing the floor with travertine, and having selected the cabinets, it was time to decide on the counters.
After much thought and investigation, it was concrete that made the most sense. Victor wanted a contemporary look that would hold up to his entertaining ways; he also wanted a cost-effective and original surface.
By keeping the design simple (square without fancy edging details or complicated insets) he avoided extra expenses; therefore, keeping the cost of the entire project down.
After being fabricated off site, the counters were installed on the cabinets for only $45 per square foot. Almost half of what a honed gray granite would cost to match the color and style.
You can see by the photos the project was a success and this kitchen makeover was right on budget!
